FAQs

1. How much do I have to pay to get on the programme?

Places on the programme are fully sponsored. Participants therefore do not have to pay anything to participate in UpRising.

2. How much time is required from me to be on the programme?

We expect participants to commit about 3- 4 hours every week.

Of this time, only learning sessions – which last around 3 hours and are held in the evenings – will  be at a fixed time. The rest of the time will be managed by you and will be used for activities such as meeting your mentor, attending learning visits or working on your community campaigns.

Participants are also be expected to attend a weekend residential in August 2010. Further details about this will be provided at the beginning of the programme.

3. Will I get any accreditation from UpRising?

As it is only in its pilot phase, the UpRising leadership programme is not accredited. Participants who succesfully complete the one year programme will receive a certificate and be invited to attend a graduation celebration.

4. I am currently a studying or working full time. Can I still join UpRising?

Yes, you can. The programme is designed to fit around your academic schedule or working life. We advise that you take a realistic look at your current committments before applying for UpRising as the responsibility for managing your time during the programme lies with you.

5. What should I do if I don’t live, work or study in one of the 3 boroughs where UpRising is taking place, but I am still interested in the programme?

The programme is only currently open to people who live, work or study in the London boroughs of Barking & Dagenham, Newham or Tower Hamlets. In subsequent years, we would like to expand into other London boroughs and across the UK.

6. I would like to have UpRising in my own borough too. Is this possible?

We are currently piloting the programme but have the intention to expand it into other boroughs in subsequent years.
